“If there are areas with too few collection points, the Government must take urgent action to open more so people suffering from swine flu can get the anti virals they need.”
The government rebutted the figures, saying that when the National Pandemic Flu Service (NFPS) opened on Thursday there were 330 pick-up points, but by Friday this figure was 961, rising to 1,149 yesterday.
A spokesman said: “The NFPS opened last Thursday and allowed over 5,500 people to receive anti-virals on the first day of operation.
“People in need of anti-virals are able to get them quickly and conveniently, and it is freeing up GPs to look after patients in risk groups, as well as those with other illnesses.”
A spokeswoman for Liverpool PCT said: “We have sufficient collection points to meet the needs of Merseyside residents.
“We are opening them as and when required. Information about collection points will be updated on the flu line soon.”
