Tory swine flu figures spark row over Tamiflu collection points

THERE are more collection points for the swine flu anti-viral drug in Wirral than in Liverpool, new figures suggest.

Conservatives claim the pick-up points for Tamiflu, which aims to tackle the bug, are too scarce in some areas, but health bosses have hit back saying their information is out of date.

According to the figures both Knowsley and Liverpool have two collection points each, but Wirral PCT has three.

But the Government has strongly defended its contingency planning for the pandemic, saying the number of clinics where the drug is available has now trebled.

Shadow health minister Stephen O’Brien said there appeared to be no link between the locations and the number of people with swine flu.

Mr O’Brien said: “These figures are a genuine and fair concern, and raise further questions about the Government’s handling of swine flu.

“It is understandable that the number of collection points in each Primary Care Trust will vary according to how rural an area is and how many cases of swine flu there are locally.

“However, the number of collection points available in many areas still seems surprisingly low.
