A MOTHER-OF-TWO who tried to smuggle heroin into prison in her mouth is behind bars.
Wendy Miller was caught with the cellophane packages of the Class A drugs as she tried to enter Walton prison.
The long-term heroin addict, of Ashbury Road, Knotty Ash, admitted she had agreed to deliver the drugs to try and pay off a £300 debt with her dealer.
But her barrister, Philip Astbury, urged the court to show mercy for the sake of her two children, particularly her teenage son, who has learning and behavioural difficulties.
He said: "The fact that she might not be there for him, not there to support him, is hugely distressing for her."
But the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe, QC, told Miller her crimes were too serious to spare her immediate custody. Jailing her for two years, he said: “The message has to go out to those who succumb to threats or pressure to take drugs into prison that, if they do so, they will lose their liberty for a long time.”
