Thousands brave the wind and rain for On The Waterfront music festival

THOUSANDS of Liverpool music lovers braved the wind and rain for a weekend of free music at the Pier Head.

The city’s iconic World Heritage Site hosted the first in a trilogy of free cultural festivals.

Part one of the inaugural series was Music On The Waterfront, which featured musicians from four continents performing.

An estimated 11,000 people attended the event over the weekend to enjoy a huge range of music – from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to blues from Connie Lush, pub singers and Africa Oyé favourites.

Cllr Gary Millar, Liverpool Council's executive member for culture, said: “Liverpool’s waterfront is one of the greatest in the world and deserves to be the home of a world-class festival.

“On The Waterfront has all the hallmarks of what was best of capital of culture – free, ambitious and appealing to everyone.”

On The Waterfront Part II – Art On The Waterfront runs from August 14-16.
