Wirral film-maker on verge of multi-million pound deal

A FILM made in Wirral for £5,000 is on the verge of an international distribution deal that could see it generate millions.

Daniel Fox’s Dreamscape is entirely self-financed and produced, but the Neston-based film-maker could be a couple of signatures away from generating up to £5m over five years.

The 28-year-old has received offers from at least six US companies who specialise in distributing films across the world to TV channels and on to DVD.

Mr Fox said: “Sample contracts have been sent through from US distributors who have international links, and we’re trying to get interest from a few UK ones as well.

“We licence the rights for a specified period of time, they promote the film, put it on DVD and you get a percentage.

“We’re hoping to make a decision about who to go with, and should sign within the next month.”

Mr Fox, who runs production company, Chat Noir with business partner Mark Ellingham, shot Dreamscape entirely on location in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Liverpool, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Neston and Wrexham, where he attended university.

After winning the feature film award at 2008’s Wirral International Film Festival, Mr Fox and his team reworked the footage to extend it to full feature length.

Since then there has been constant interest from distribution companies.

He said: “The film is a sci-fi thriller, with quite a 70s feel to it.

“It’s about a bored businessman, who goes to a company called Dreamscape.
