Historic Rainhill Village wins the fight for a new cash machine

Carl Birchall, of Rainhill Village Butchers, said: “There are 12,000 people in the village and not having a cash machine was having a major effect not just on our businesses, but also for the residents who had to travel elsewhere for cash. We still have the parking issue to resolve, but this cash machine gives us a real chance at turning things round and making the village vibrant again.”

Cllr Grunewald said: “This is fantastic news. Mr Woodward also wrote a letter in support of our idea and last Tuesday, I brought Bank Machine down to the village.

“It is hoped they might be able to install the new machine in the place of the old HSBC cash machine.

“If that goes ahead, the machine could be in place in the next fortnight. If not, we will have to apply for planning permission so it will take a bit longer.

“There is a meeting today about the parking issue and we hope to introduce free parking for maybe 30 minutes or an hour.

“Discussions are also ongoing with the council over the possibility of acquiring a piece of land to offer free parking, so things are moving forward.”
