“Many universities decide to change the way they teach things and many have rebuilding programmes. But for the two things to come together at exactly the same time is very unusual and means that we have the opportunity to do something very special. We have been able to design our new teaching spaces with the teaching programmes in mind. This is highly exciting.”
And the university’s radical building style has influenced academic thinking, with the department already using a kind of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? electronic multiple-choice questionnaire during lectures.
Professor Goodhew added: “Students are given an electronic handset which enables them to select from a range of possible answers on a screen. Another idea we’re testing is to completely clear the timetable for a week either side of Christmas to allow students to actually build something.”
