Wirral farm’s star trek maize maze set for blast-off

Last year, with Capital of Culture in full swing, a yellow submarine was cut through the corn, and spaceships and planets can be found in the 2009 maze.

Clare said: “I design it and mark it all out.

“When the plants are just a few centimetres tall, we make the pathways and keep our fingers crossed that the maize grows.”

The crop is different to the corn found in supermarkets, and is fed to livestock in winter months.

Clare said: “There’s a standard rule in a maize maze that you can stick your hand on the left wall and follow it round.

“But we’ve got bridges built into ours, which makes it 3-D.

“All that will do is take you back to the start, so don’t do that.”

To keep the children quiet while you try and maintain your cool, an “intergalactic passport” is provided full of games and puzzles, just in case they don’t find the maze tricky enough.

THE Brimstage Maize Maze is open every day between 10.30am and 6pm, at Gregorys’ Farm behind Brimstage Courtyard, Wirral. Admission is £5 for adults and £4 for children, with under-3s free.
