Thousands visit Art on the Waterfront
THOUSANDS of people braved changeable skies to see a festival bring art to life on Liverpool’s docks.
More than 45,000 people descended on Pier Head and the Albert Dock for the city’s flamboyant Art on the Waterfront event.
The three-day festival hosted 250 street performers who arrived ready to taunt the city’s occasionally grey weather with their most colourful costumes.
Among the street artists were two giant eggs – dancing alongside their chef – a troupe of saucy Samba dancers and a parade of illuminated cyclists.
A helium heliosphere also floated overhead – operated by a gymnast underneath.
But the highlight of the festival was Saturday night when the city’s Port of Liverpool building basked under the Son et Lumiere sound and laser show.
A crowd of more than 2,000 people watched the display and were entertained by musicians including the Liverpool Samba Band.
