Mr Schmeink added: “We now need to make sure we maintain these incredible levels of punctuality for the future.”
Passenger lobby group Passenger Focus welcomed the Merseyrail improvements.
Spokeswoman Julie Warburton said: “Merseyrail and Network Rail have done well to consistently deliver a service which passengers can rely on.
“Trains running on time is a top priority for passengers and the industry must keep focus on ensuring trains run to the scheduled timetable.
“Passengers in other parts of the country will be looking on enviously.”
Mrs Warburton added: “Not all train services are as punctual as these.”
