Businesses braced for workers’ ‘holiday hangover’

FIRMS have been warned they faced a “holiday hangover” as staff take time to settle back into work after their summer break.

A survey of 2,000 workers showed that one in three dreaded going back to the office after a week off and two out of five take at least a day to settle back into a regular working pattern.

Investors in People said its study also revealed that many people felt less motivated after a holiday, while one in three workers complained about the number of emails and correspondence they had to deal with on their return.

Simon Jones, chief executive of Investors in People, said: “Employers have to recognise there is an issue and it is essential that they respond to it, particularly in the current climate.

“They can ill-afford a post-holiday productivity gap.”
