Classic Rover wrecks Wirral shop

A SHOP owner is facing a massive repair bill after a classic car crashed into his disused business – destroying the facade.

Peter Edwards was at his daughter’s house when he was told a 1962 Rover 100 had ploughed into Prize Frame and Sparkles on Kings Street, Egremont, at 3pm on Friday.

The grey and green Rover is believed to have clipped a taxi turning out of Rice Lane.

Mr Edwards said: “The elderly gentleman inside the car was very badly shaken by it.

“I can’t believe how much damage has been done to the shop. I’ve never seen so much glass before. Although it isn’t being used as a shop now, I use it for storage and live above.

“It is very lucky that no one was injured as just in front of the shop is a bus stop. If anyone had been standing there at the time they would have been hit and seriously injured.”

The 100 series cost £1,538 when they were introduced in 1960 and could reach a top speed of 91 mph.

Only 16,500 were produced.
