A GROUP of charity fundraisers, including Everton FC chief executive Robert Elstone and former Liverpool city council deputy leader Derek Hatton, have embarked on an epic cycle ride from London to Paris.
The fifteen-strong team are hoping to raise a minimum of £15,000 for the Everton Foundation, by covering more than 300 miles over a four-day period.
Hatton said: "It's great to be able to do this for such a good cause.
“The older you get, the more exercise you need. It's certainly better than sitting at home watching TV."
The remaining thirteen riders are from all walks of life, united in their bid to promote both the charity and fitness.
To prepare, the team engaged in a gruelling training schedule.
The majority of the ride is on flat land, but nevertheless the team tested their stamina before they left with 70 mile hill-climbs to Mount Snowdon and Thurstaston Hill, in Wirral.
The group’s route will take them through Kent, before crossing the English Channel and continuing on through rural Northern France.
