Young Liverpool boxer claims men who died in double fatal crash had stopped to help him during a fight

A YOUNG boxer who survived a double fatal crash told jurors the two men who died must have stopped to help him during a fight.

Carl Cunningham, 19, was the back-seat passenger in a Nissan Primera which raced through a red light and was hit by a Range Rover in Netherton.

Driver Michael Chaderton, 23, and front-seat passenger Samuel Dunne, 24, were killed almost instantly. Mr Cunningham, who has no memory of the horror smash, yesterday insisted he had never met either man before and guessed they must have come to his aid during a brawl.

Liverpool Crown Court has heard Mr Chaderton’s Primera was chased by a Skoda Octavia driven by Owen Broughton, 21, following a fight over a girl.

Broughton, of Queen’s Drive, Stoneycroft, denies two counts of death by dangerous driving on July 17 last year.

The case continues.
