Liverpool driver denies causing crash in which two men were killed

A MAN accused of causing a crash which killed two young men has denied chasing them to their deaths.

Owen Broughton, 21, of Queens Drive, Stoneycroft, was accused of lying by a prosecutor at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, after he claimed that he had been following the car to simply get hold of its registration number.

The prosecution allege he was pursuing sportsman Carl Cunningham, 19, after he was involved in a fight with mutual friend Neil Phillips.

Driver Michael Chaderton, 23, and front-seat passenger Samuel Dunne, 24, were killed when the car ran a red light at the junction at Copy Lane and Dunnings Bridge Road.

Under cross-examination Broughton told the court that they had found Phillips with his face covered in blood stains.
