Liverpool health chiefs' weight warning over drinking

LIVERPOOL health chiefs have warned people about the effect drinking alcohol can have on weight.

It follows a national study which showed binge drinking can add up to four inches to your waist size.

Liverpool Primary Care Trust (PCT) has also revealed that people signed up to the Echo-backed Lose a Million challenge have cut the amount of alcohol they are drinking.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, Chair of Liverpool PCT, said: “This latest research is quite staggering and will come as a major shock to anyone who regularly drinks alcohol.

“People are always surprised when we tell them a bottle of red wine has as many calories as six jam doughnuts, and this backs up our warnings.

“It’s encouraging that people who have signed up to Liverpool’s challenge have heeded advice and made the change to cut down.”
