Iris Stubbs said there were too few bus services to The Warrens and elderly people would suffer, while Dave Hall suggested not all possible sites had been explored.
When Wirral PCT chief executive Kathy Dornan told the committee: “It is unacceptable for patients with leg ulcers to have to travel many miles to be treated,” that “west Wirral should have the same access to service as Birkenhead, Wallasey, and the rest of Wirral,” and that the land to be built on was a “derelict and scruffy area” the crowd roared with approval, prompting planning committee chairman Cllr David Elderton to point out they were not influenced by a clapometer.
The motion to grant planning permission was carried by nine votes to one abstention.
Ms Curtis said she would be consulting solicitors about a possible appeal, adding: “This decision has been made based on the number of supporters for the applicant here tonight. Nothing has changed since the last one they threw out.
“There are inaccuracies in their figures.”
Dr Alan Johnston, of Thingwall surgery, said: “I’m delighted and relieved that, after 10 long years, we’ve finally got the building through.”
