AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a four-year-old boy was found wandering the streets on his first day at school.
Ieuan Morse had walked half a mile and crossed a busy carriageway after being put on the school bus earlier that day by his father Robert, 28.
It is yet to be established whether the youngster went missing from the grounds of his new school, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr, in Brackla, Bridgend, or whether he walked off straight away after getting off the privately contracted bus.
He was eventually picked up by police and returned to his home in Maes-y-Felin, in the Wildmill area of the town, after being spotted by a keen-eyed lollipop lady.
Mr Morse and his partner, Rebecca Williams, 29, said they were “speechless and shocked” when officers turned up at their door with their son.
The father-of-five said: “They (police officers) came to the door and wanted to know why Ieuan was left by himself. I was shocked because I put him on the school bus myself.”
A spokesman for the Bridgend Local Education Authority said: “The procedure is that when children arrive at school by bus, school bus escorts ensure they enter school premises before the bus departs.
“The LEA is contacting the school.”
