C difficile cases down at Merseyside hospitals

Diane Wake, Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Royal, said C Diff rates had dropped dramatically during the last few years. We have halved the rates of C Diff in our hospitals.

“MRSA rates have also reduced by nearly half.

“We are determined to continue this so we reduce infections even further.”

James Birrell, Chief Executive at Aintree, said: “These figures show a significant reduction, thanks to the efforts of staff.

“We are back on track with our target for cases, but we have to keep this focus up.”

Dr Ian Jones, Medical Director at Arrowe Park, said: “We are delighted that the recent downward trend is continuing and that there has been a significant reduction in the number of cases compared with the same quarter in 2008. However, we are not complacent.”

Ann Marr, Chief Executive at Whiston, added: “These figures are fantastic news and reflect the hard work of staff to maintain one of the lowest infection rates in the country.”
