A LIVERPOOL radiographer has raised thousands for charity by abseiling.
Ali Guest specialises in mammography at the Linda McCartney Centre, based in the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
She has taken part in fundraising abseils for the hospital five times, raising thousands of pounds with her friends, but each time she enjoys it so much she goes straight back up and does it again.
She said: “I just love doing the abseil so much, it takes until about half way down for it all to sink in, then as soon as I get to the bottom I turn round and have another go.
“I’ve seen all sorts of people do the abseil, those who are afraid of heights and some so nervous you don’t think they’re going to go through with it, but they all say the same thing when they finish, that they’re so pleased they did it.
“The adrenaline rush is so great that you’re on a happy high for the rest of the day.”
This year, Ali is taking the plunge again with her dance partner, Don Gleave, and her friend Jackie Flemming, a radiographer at Alder Hey. Ms Guest added: “I abseiled last year in costume with my dance partner as Batman, my brother as the Joker and me as Cat Woman, and there was a huge cheer from the girls in the crowd when Cat Woman beat Batman and Joker to the ground.”
TO REGISTER for the abseil, email fundraising@rlbuht.nhs.uk or call 0151 706 3153. The event will be taking place from 9am-4pm on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27.
