Liverpool mother to run in sister’s memory

A LIVERPOOL mother-of-two is preparing to conquer the Great North Run in memory of her sister, who died from meningitis.

Lucy Evans, 41, from Childwall, decided to take up running after she lost her older sister, Carol English, in January.

Ms Evans said: “The speed at which meningitis attacked was truly shocking. Meningitis used to make me think of babies, floppiness and a rash but there are many more symptoms, and the disease can attack anyone – even healthy adults.”

Tests revealed Carol had pneumococcal meningitis, which is one of the most deadly strains of the disease.

Lucy hopes to raise over £700, and all money raised will go towards Meningitis UK’s Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign.
