Liverpool tennis star Ken Skrupski will be going back to his roots at Davis Cup

Mr Skupski snr said: “They have made a lot of sacrifices to get where they are, but it is starting to pay off now.

“I reckon myself and my wife Mary have done well over 100,000 miles to get them to competitions and coaching.

“This has included getting to Manchester at 9am on Sunday mornings for coaching lessons, or going to places like Preston or Middleton straight after school.”

He added: “There’s no guarantee Ken will play as a member of the Davis Cup GB team, but if he does it will be a dream come true for him.

“He’s played at Wimbledon and at Queen’s, but playing for your country is a different proposition.”

Chris Peet, who coached Ken between the ages of nine and 16, said: “There’s no reason why he can’t get into the world’s top 100 rankings.”
