Restauranteurs and chefs say food and drink festival has helped put Liverpool “on the culinary map”

RESTAURATEURS say the success of the festival has put Liverpool “on the culinary map”.

Head chef at the London Carriageworks, Paul Askew, said: “This is what we’ve been working towards for the last eight to ten years, and it shows how far the city has come.

“People have been blown away and the number of visitors today shows the importance of food to Liverpool.”

Vince Margiotta, managing partner at Il Forno and Sapporo, said: “Marco’s visit really is proof that Liverpool holds its rightful place on the culinary map.”

Others said they hoped the day would give a boost to the city’s restaurant trade.

Jad Rahman and his team from Gulshan, in Aigburth, were serving up £3 taster portions of lamb chop and chicken curries and homemade chutneys – soon to be specials on the restaurant menu.

He said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic – we keep running out of food.

“I think everyone’s enjoyed it.

“We’ve had really good feedback, and we really hope customers will come and eat with us after the festival.”
