Abandoned baby: police step up search for mother

DETECTIVES searching for the mother of a newborn baby found abandoned in bushes, have released images of the cardigan used to swaddle the child.

The little girl, named Rosie by medical staff, was believed to be only two days old when she was discovered with her umbilical cord still attached, last Tuesday. She was found inside a pink and white canvas bag, wrapped in the grey cardigan by a woman in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

Thames Valley Police released images of the piece of clothing which came from the high street chain H&M and is sized as small.

Last week, detectives distributed pictures of the pink-and-cream bag in which Rosie was found, hoping this might throw up new leads and help to trace the child’s mother.

About 2,000 people have now joined a group set up on social networking site Facebook to encourage her to get in touch.

Rosie was discovered in bushes on a spot of open ground on Oxford Road, shortly after 5pm.

She was taken to Wycombe General Hospital where she is now said to be “doing well.” Cards and gifts have been brought in for her by members of the public and hospital staff.

Detective Sergeant Kelly Glister of Thames Valley Police said: “We want to make sure Rosie’s mum is well, and has access to the support services she needs.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact High Wycombe Police Station on 0845 8505 505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
