AXED TV dance judge Arlene Phillips is to step back into her role for a new BBC series, So You Think You Can Dance, it has been announced.
The 66-year-old choreographer’s departure from Strictly Come Dancing sparked an ageism debate when she was replaced by 30-year-old Alesha Dixon. But she has now been revealed as a key figure in a new UK version of a talent show which has already become a huge hit in the US. She will join head judge Nigel Lythgoe, who is best known as Nasty Nigel for his appearances on ITV’s Popstars series, which made stars of Hear’Say.
For the new show, amateur and professional dancers from around the country will compete for the title of Britain’s Favourite Dancer next January.
Phillips said: “So You Think You Can Dance is a dancer’s dream.
“I’ve always supported dance talent and look forward to seeing the most promising developing before our eyes each week.”
