Poet Laureate Carol-Ann Duffy headlines Wirral Bookfest

Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy

BRITAIN’S Poet Laureate, Carol-Ann Duffy, is the star attraction of this year’s Wirral Bookfest, which takes place next month.

Ms Duffy, who succeeded Andrew Motion earlier this year, will entertain people at Bromborough Civic Centre on Monday, October 12, with an evening of verse and wisdom.

Other highlights of the second annual literary festival, organised by Wirral Libraries, include “The Life and Times of Agatha Christie”, by crime writers Matthew Booth and David Stuart Davies.

Fran Sandham, who walked solo across Africa, will give an illustrated talk about his trip during the Bookfest, while there will also be workshops on about tracing your family history, soap scriptwriting and creative writing.

To see the full programme of events, visit wirral.gov.uk/bookfest and download the leaflet. The festival runs from Monday, October 12, to Monday, October 18.

The evening with the Poet Laureate is 7.30pm-9pm, tickets are £5 and include wine. For details, call Bromborough Civic Centre on 0151 334 1650.
