TWO volumes of a handwritten cookbook, dating back around 300 years, sold for more than £1,000 yesterday, an auctioneer said.
The 18th-century cookery book, featuring recipes for tasty treats including cheesecake, a calf’s head, and black sheep pudding, was part of a three-day Antiques and Fine Art sale organised by Derby-based auction house Bamfords.
After attracting interest from across the world, two neatly-written volumes of the humble handwritten recipes sold for a total of £1,100, a spokesman for Bamfords said.
The book, which was found in a house clearance in Derby, had the date of 1739 written on its cover.
