Tourists on increase

THE number of overseas tourists visiting the UK rose between May and July but fewer Britons travelled abroad, official figures show.

The Office for National Statistics said the overall picture had “stabilised” following declines over months.

Overseas residents made 7.7m trips to the UK between May and July – an increase of 2% on the previous three months.

But, despite the rise, their spending dropped by 3% to £4bn, while British spending abroad fell by 6% to £7.6bn.
