Governors accuse Liverpool schools chief of ‘truancy’

Greenbank ward councillor, Paul Clein, sensationally quit his education post of 10 years in March last year after accusing council leaders of putting “petty revenge” ahead of running the city.

His departure was met with praise for his passion for improving the city’s education standards.

Mr Doherty’s anger was shared by governors across the city.

Last night Joe Hartley, chair of their representative body, the Liverpool Governors’ Forum stressed dates of meetings were set well in advanced and added: “Governors put in a lot of time for no reward, not that they complain, but the least they can expect is the respect of the executive member and for him to turn up once a term.”

Paul Brant, deputy opposition leader, said Cllr Turner’s attendance record was setting a bad example to schools, and added: “It’s an unacceptable dereliction of duty.”
