Call for rethink on Wirral coastline redevelopment scheme

AMBITIOUS plans to redevelop a largely derelict area of Wirral coastline would have more chance of early success if they began in south Wirral and worked northward, a councillor has claimed.

Last week the Daily Post revealed the “Mersey Coast” plans being developed by Wirral Council and the Royal Mersey Yacht Club to improve the stretch between Rock Ferry and Eastham.

But New Ferry councillor Steve Niblock said previous attempts to develop this stretch of coastline have stalled and that starting work at New Ferry and Eastham and working back towards Rock Ferry would allow work to start sooner.

Last night Wirral Council indicated that bids have been made to funding agencies for developing the Bromborough landfill site which could see Cllr Niblock’s suggestions taken up.
