PLANS for Merseyside Police’s new Wirral Command Centre look set for approval, after council officers gave it their backing.
Councillors on the Planning Committee will have their say on the £30m proposal on Thursday.
The intended site for the state-of-the-art new building is Beaufort Road, Birkenhead, on the former River Streets.
Chairman of Merseyside Police Authority, Cllr Bill Weightman, had accused some councillors of treating the plan like a political football, following claims that normal stations would close.
He said only the futures of Laird Street and the main station in Birkenhead would be considered, and there would be an inquiry desk for the public in the new HQ.
The three-storey building will include green measures such as the collection of rain water to flush toilets.
The meeting will take place on Thursday at 6pm, at Wallasey Town Hall.
