She also praised the city for transforming itself in the past few years.
She said: “It’s amazing how much Liverpool has changed, with all the cafes and restaurants, Liverpool One and all around Hope Street.”
“I hope with so much going on that the city takes that confidence and spreads out to reach other areas, outside the city centre.”
Forthcoming events in the series will focus on the work of favourites including Willy Russell, David Morrissey, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Christine Tremarco and Jimmy McGovern.
