A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze caused commuter chaos in Chester.
The fire at the Convivio Restaurant, on Grosvenor Street, started around 7am on Monday and caused police to shut nearby streets while firefighters were deployed to put it out.
Crews from both Chester and Ellesmere Port fire stations rushed to the scene at 7.10am after reports of smoke pouring from the first floor of the building.
Five fire engines and a hydraulic platform were used to battle the flames at the historic three-storey building. The fire is believed to have begun in the roof.
The 26-year-old local man was granted police bail until November 23, pending further investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
