SHERIFFS from across England and Wales have celebrated the 25th anniversary of their Association in Chester.
At the annual meeting of the National Association of City and Town Sheriffs of England and Wales events included a buffet reception at Chester Zoo; the annual general meeting at the Military Museum; a banquet in the Guildhall with guest speaker His Honour Judge Elgan Edwards, the Honorary Recorder for Chester and a service at Chester Cathedral involving current and past Sheriffs.
Cheshire West and Chester councillor Hilarie McNae said: “I was extremely fortunate to be Chester’s Sheriff in the same year as the 25th anniversary of the Association of Sheriffs – making it extra special and an amazing privilege.
“It was only fitting that the celebrations were held in Chester because the city was the first to have a Sheriff in 1121, making the post nearly 900 years old.”
