Liverpool Kensington Regeneration resignation sparked by “waste of taxpayers’ money”

A LEADING councillor has resigned from the board of a key regeneration project in protest at proposals which she claims are a “huge waste of taxpayers’ money”.

Labour councillor Louise Baldock stood down from the board of Kensington Regeneration yesterday, after a row over how its finances should be handled in future.

She said a new community interest company, set up to take over from Kensington Regeneration next year, would spend £92,000 of its £225,000 income on administration.

Cllr Baldock also said it was being suggested a £40,000-a-year manager should be employed, which she thinks is too much.

She said: “I regretfully resigned because I can no longer support plans for the future. Reluctantly, I supported the board when £200,000 was lost due to a cock-up with VAT. But I just could not sit by and watch them waste taxpayers’ money yet again.”
