Liverpool gets ready for the 2009 Irish Festival

SINGER-SONGWRITER Damien Dempsey and the Celtic Tenors are among those taking part in this year’s Liverpool Irish Festival.

Dempsey returns to the festival, which is this year sponsored by Irish drinks giant Guinness and supported by the Daily Post’s sister paper the Echo, after a successful appearance in 2008.

This year, he will join legendary accordion player Sharon Shannon and her big band in a concert at the Philharmonic Hall.

The Hope Street hall is also the venue for the Celtic Tenors, who will perform with the RLPO on October 16.

This year’s festival runs from October 16 to November 1 at sites across the city and beyond, including St George’s Hall, St Michael’s Irish Centre and Southport Arts Centre.
