Timing the key for Liverpool’s Flickr gallery photographers

GETTING to the right place at the right time was crucial for the photographers featured in this week’s selection from our outstanding online photo gallery.

Claire Trish, who contributes as pixieclaire001, raced across to New Brighton after learning online that there was a particularly high tide.

She said: “The waves were truly impressive in this stretch of the river and were roaring over the sea wall.

“The stormy cumulous clouds added to the overall turbulent atmosphere.

“I actually got soaked at one point – it was difficult getting out of my car – and the wind was so strong.

“I had naively parked alongside the sea wall and I was caught by sea spray from the high waves.

“The sunlight kept breaking through gaps in the clouds and this shot was captured by me leaning on the New Brighton sea wall to steady the camera.”

She used a 0.003 sec exposure with the aperture set at f/8.0.

Graham Peers, Photonutter, took an alternative route to getting himself in the right place at the right time.

He took his dramatic vista of Liverpool’s rooftops by settling in for the long haul.

He said: “The shot was taken during a long night event at the Anglican Cathedral tower.

“Just after sundown, I decided for a long exposure holding the shutter open for 40 seconds, so used both an nd8 plus a neutral graduated filter.”

The technical know-how produced a shot with luminous intensity.

For Paula O’Hara, paulett, post-production also helped produce an eyecatching landscape which draws the eye into picture.

She said: “I used some software called photoscape and a backlight on 100% to give it that ‘whoof!’.

“I also used a filter in the software to shade the sky a touch, having used a polarising filter on the lens when I took the picture.”
