Tourism strategy launched to Liverpool dignitaries

THE tourism strategy was launched last night at a Champagne reception for the city’s dignitaries at the BT Convention Centre.

Television presenter Ranvir Singh opened the evening with a news bulletin depicting the success of Liverpool in 2020.

TMP chief executive Lorraine Rogers introduced the 10 year strategy to 140 guests.

She said: “The Visitor Economy has the potential to grow by 60% in the next decade.

“That’s impressive by any standards and underlines the fact that this sector is not ephemeral. It is capable of generating £2bn and employing 37,000 people.

“No other sector in our region has that potential which is why the Visitor Economy is being taken very seriously. “No other destination in the world has assets, attractions and infrastructure quite like ours.

“This strategy has been produced with our public and private sector partners. “Together we have identified how it can grow, generating further wealth and prosperity for our region.”

Ms Rogers then introduced Liverpool council leader Cllr Warren Bradley, director of National Museum Liverpool Dr David Fleming, Nick Brooks–Sykes, from the North West Development Agency, and Neil Pakey, deputy CEO of Peel Airports.
