“As the Friends of Wallasey Village only sold the furniture as a result of the ill fated decision to close the library by Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors, now that they have been forced into a humiliating U-turn its only fair that the council should cough up and supply the library with the furniture and other items it has lost.”
Cllr Hayes said after the cabinet decision to close Wallasey Village Library, the libraries’ Friends group sold or gave away furniture including around 50 chairs and an information board and gave the money to charity.
Cllr Hayes added: “I have written to the Director of Regeneration asking that he contacts the Friends of Wallasey Village Library and offers to replace all items which were sold.
“It’s ridiculous that we can’t even have a community meeting in the library and this should be remedied as soon as possible.”
A council spokeswoman said the director of regeneration, Alan Stennard, had received Cllr Hayes’ email yesterday and was “looking in to it and seeing what can be done to help”.
