All smiles as Liverpool musical Twopence to Cross the Mersey takes £2m at the box office

THE musical Twopence to Cross the Mersey – based on author Helen Forrester’s memoirs – has netted £2m since the production first opened.

Producers Rob and Alan Fennah celebrated Twopence to Cross the Mersey reaching the box office landmark with a cake and Champagne party at the Empire last night.

This month’s run is the fourth time the musical has been staged at the Lime Street landmark since 2004.

Rob Fennah said: “Considering the show will only have been staged for seven weeks in total, hitting £2m at the box office, in such a short space of time, is a real achievement.”

Alan Fennah added: “Helen Forrester has sold more than 4m books in the UK and Ireland alone, and our aim now is to tour the show and give Helen’s vast readership a chance to see her most famous book come to life.”
