Tories demand answers about Wirral Council’s “secret meeting”

WIRRAL Tories are demanding to know details of a late-night meeting at Wallasey town hall involving senior council officers – on the day before the authority’s dramatic reversal of its library closure plans.

Conservative leader Jeff Green said he had become aware of a meeting which apparently stretched beyond midnight last week.

Cllr Green said details of the meeting were “as bizarre as it could get”, as none of those present would say who else was there or what was discussed.

He said when he spoke to one of those who was there he admitted it, but refused to say what was being discussed, and the same happened with another senior officer.

Cllr Green said: “It was absolutely unbelievable. It turns out people would confirm they were there, but would not say who else was at this meeting.

“I believe there was a serious crisis within the council – what are you supposed to think if you have senior officers burning the midnight oil like this.
