Chris Evans in Liverpool to promote his autobiography, writes Peter Elson

DJ CHRIS EVANS must love his public, because he is using two weeks’ annual leave to do a book signing tour.

Chris, from Warrington, appeared in Liverpool to promote his first autobiography, It’s Not What You Think.

He said: “I enjoy meeting the people, as they are my audience. It’s the best research you can do, as they tell you exactly what they like.”

His headline-grabbing media career and life, as frankly detailed in his book, is now much calmer.

The former bad boy of broadcasting will present BBC Radio 2’s flagship breakfast show from January 11, when Sir Terry Wogan retires.

Sports-mad Chris, 43, stayed at Formby Golf Club the night before coming directly to appear at Waterstones, Bold Street.

He said: “They were wonderful, as we were running late and phoned from Glasgow and begged them to keep the kitchen open.”

His next worry is about appearing on the Jonathan Ross show, but added: “His producer was mine, so I hope it will be OK.”
