Delays caused by road spillage near to Cheshire Oaks

MOTORISTS faced delays yesterday after an unknown substance was found spilled on the road.

The A5117, from Junction 10 of the M53, near Cheshire Oaks outlet village, in Ellesmere Port, was one of the worst-affected areas.

The North Wales-bound carriageway road was closed just after 1pm and not re-opened until 3pm, after gritters had put sand on the road surface.

At first it was thought to have been diesel which had spilled or leaked from a lorry or container, but a spokeswoman for Cheshire West and Chester Council said the substance was found to be “sticky”.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said they had been involved in cleaning up part of the slipway near the M53, and speed restrictions were imposed on the motorway nearby.
