AN INTERPRETER from Wirral has won £30,000 in damages from one of the country’s biggest unions, after being wrongly accused of selling data.
Spanish specialist Jan Cambridge, from Heswall, was said to have abused her position as a director of the National Register of Public Service Interpreters in passing information to commercial organisations.
At one stage, Leicestershire Police was called in to conduct an investigation into the allegations, only to find there was no evidence of any wrong-doing.
Jan Cambridge, 58, said: “I am hugely relieved to have been fully vindicated and to be able to bring an end to what his been an extremely stressful time for me personally and my family. ”
Central to the allegations made against Mrs Cambridge was that she had helped the Cambridge Interpreting and Translation Agency (CINTRA) win a contract to provide interpreter services to police forces in the East Midlands region.
In the High Court, the GMB’s lawyer said “The GMB is grateful for this opportunity to apologise publicly to Mrs Cambridge for making the allegations complained of and to retract them.”
