A “BEATLES trail” taking in some of the most iconic locations connected to the Fab Four could be set up in Liverpool.
Councillors will discuss the possibility of teaming up with record label Apple and Peter Blake, the artist responsible for the front cover of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Ideas for the trail – dubbed “The Long and Winding Road” after the Let It Be track – include plotting the route from the NEMS record store in Whitechapel to the Cavern, in Mathew Street.
Broadcaster and music historian Spencer Leigh said the short walk between the two venues was probably one of the most important ever made in the history of rock and pop music.
Mr Leigh said: “It was on November 9, 1961, when Brian Epstein went to the Cavern at lunchtime because people had mentioned this band playing there.
“He did not know what to expect, but when he saw them he was bowled over, and went back to the shop and said ‘I want to manage that group’.
“Everything sprang from that. I think they had such talent they would have made it anyway, but it was just fortuitous that it all came together.”
The motion, put forward by deputy council leader Cllr Flo Clucas, will be debated at a town hall meeting tomorrow.
It states the idea recognises the “unique contribution of The Beatles to the city and the world” and “the enduring vibrancy of their music”.
