ŠHe insisted Labour and the Lib-Dems offered the “only positive” option before the council and offered a solution to budget issues the change of policy now means.
ŠHe criticised both a Conservative motion demanding the resignation of the administration, and an amendment by Lib-Dem Cllrs Phil Gilchrist and Pat Williams, which was critical of their own party.
ŠIn his speech, Cllr Gilchrist even quoted the Elton John song, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.
But Cllr Foulkes dismissed the criticism, saying the entire meeting was an attempt by the Tories to achieve “political gain”.
As each senior member of the administration spoke, Tory group leader Cllr Jeff Green asked if they had seen the report – although none answered.
ŠConservative councillors John Hale, Leah Fraser, Simon Mountney, Gerry Ellis, Kate Wood, David Elderton, Paul Hayes, Denis Knowles, Chris Blakeley and Lesley Rennie all joined calls for the administration to resign.
