St Helens launches farmers’ market

ST HELENS’ first regular farmers’ market is being held this weekend.

Local produce, from ostrich meat to cakes, will be available at Fir Tree Farm on Saturday.

It follows talks between the farm, St Helens Council and St Helens Chamber to bring a monthly event to the tourist destination.

Alan Abbott, owner of Fir Tree Farm, said: “It will help to boost the local economy because several farmers and producers from the North-West have not been able to trade in this area before.”

The 20 stalls will include Forsters Organic Meats, Southport Seafood’s world-famous potted shrimps, and Lancashire cheeses.

Fir Tree Farm is a 35- hectare family farm which has woodland walks, farm shop and cafe.

The market will take place between 9.30am-1pm, on the third Saturday of the month.
