CITY leaders insisted their jobs recruitment process is fair, despite the girlfriend of a senior councillor being given a £30,000-a-year job.
No one else was interviewed for the town hall post “Lib Dem Laura” Gilmore, who goes out with parliamentary candidate Colin Eldridge, now holds.
At a meeting yesterday, opposition leader Cllr Joe Anderson called on the council to “confirm its commitment to a fair recruitment and employment policy”.
He said: “We need to make sure transparency, openness and fairness take place, and there needs to be some questions asked of councillors and officers.”
But council leader Cllr Warren Bradley insisted its recruitment policies were fair, referring to the problems Liverpool faced during the “jobs for the boys” militant Labour era.
An investigation into the appointment of Miss Gilmore has concluded, but it is not known whether the findings will be made public.
