UK spends £6m calling helplines

FRUSTRATED broadband users with faulty connections spend millions of pounds kept on hold by technical support phone lines, a new survey reveals.

More than 15m calls, costing an average of £1.75, are made to technical support lines every year, according to uSwitch.com.

Of the service providers, Orange and Tiscali finished bottom of the satisfaction table, rated 42% and 47% respectively.

TalkTalk kept customers waiting on hold longest with an average wait of 12 minutes.

In total, nearly £6m a year is spent calling helplines, with customers usually having to call at least twice to fix the same problem.
