Wirral Arrowe Park hospital’s casualty manager sacked over waiting times scandal

“As a trust committed to openness and honesty in all we do, we take this matter extremely seriously.

“Waiting time standards ensure patients can access our services as quickly as possible.

“We should therefore wish to apologise to any patient who has waited longer than necessary in A&E, and reassure them we are absolutely committed to providing the highest standards of care.”

Colin Baker, regional organiser of trade union Unison, said: “Staff come under incredible pressure to reach these targets.

“Many of them are in stressful positions and are understaffed.

“Perhaps senior management need to take more personal responsibility, instead of just driving others on.”
